
Cherokee County and the
City of Murphy are located in the southwestern portion of North
Carolina in the Blue Ridge range of the Great Smoky Mountains.
The
county is comprised of 300,100 acres, of which 92,363 acres are
U.S. Forest Service parks and areas. Murphy, with a population of
approximately 1,600 people, is the county seat.
Within a short distance
of the cabin, there are many fascinating and enjoyable places of
interest.
For those inclined towards outdoor activities, there are:
- Numerous lakes and rivers for boating, fishing, swimming,
white
water rafting and other aquatic pastimes
- Several national forests
and state parks for hiking,
picnicking, sight-seeing and mountain
biking
- A number of other attractions, including train rides,
horseback riding, boat rides and golfing.
For those with a preference
for indoor activities, there are many to choose from, including
museums, Indian villages, historic places, art centers, and the Biltmore Estate.
