EAGLES START 2010 WITH A WIN

Sunset's game plan was clearly to stop Southwest's leading scorer Gio Gonzalez. The Knights blanketed him all night but the Eagles are not a one-man team, which became evident quickly when Oscar Blanco swished two 3-pointers in the first two minutes of Southwest's 51-40 road victory. Blanco had a team-high 15 points as the Eagles (8-2, 6-1) broke open a close game in the final quarter. Southwest led 11-7 after one quarter, trailed 24-23 at the half, and led 36-32 after three periods. Leo Torres was two rebounds short of a double-double with 11 points, 8 boards, and 3 assists. Gio Gonzalez had 5 of his 12 points in the fourth quarter and also had 4 steals and 3 assists.

Congratulations to the junior varsity on their second victory of the season. The Baby Eagles, down 20 points in the third quarter, rallied for a thrilling 54-52 win over host Sunset.
