REFS LEAD SOUTH MIAMI TO UPSET VICTORY

South Miami, using the game officials for an 8-5 advantage, stole a 45-43 victory before another excellent crowd at the Southwest gym. The Cobras (10-7, 6-3) pushed, shoved, and held at will because the referees either did not know the rules or intentionally chose to ignore them. The Eagles (11-3, 9-2) scored only 3 points in the fourth quarter because they were being consistently pounded by South Miami. Rule 10-6-1 says "A player shall not contact an opponent with his hand unless such contact is only with the opponent's hand while it is on the ball and is incidental to an attempt to play the ball." The penalty is a foul for hand-checking. The Cobras committed over 100 hand checks in the game and not a single one was called. Rule 10-3-4b says "A player shall not illegally contact the backboard/ring by intentionally slapping or striking the backboard or causing the ring to vibrate while a try or tap is in flight." This is exactly what a South Miami player did with 6:54 left in the game when Michael Juachon scored Southwest's only basket of the quarter. The penalty is a technical foul, which would have given the Eagles two shots and possession but none of the three officials knew the rule or they chose to cheat and ignore the rule. Eagles coach Tom Moore yelled at the officials after the game ended and one of the clowns left the gym with a big smile on his face.
The scoring:
Gio Gonzalez 18
Michael Juachon 6
Oscar Blanco 6
Alex Mola 4
Leo Torres 3
Ray Lleonart 3
Alex Felipe 3
