KROP ELIMINATES SW FROM GMAC

Southwest played Krop evenly for the first six minutes and outscored the Lightning in the second half. It was the 10 minutes in between that proved to be the Eagles' undoing in a 56-42 loss at Coral Gables High in the semifinal round of the Greater Miami Athletic Conference tournament. With two minutes left in the first quarter, Southwest (15-6) led 13-12. Krop (21-4), the top-ranked school in Miami-Dade, outscored the Eagles 26-9 in the next ten minutes to take a 38-22 lead at the half. The Lightning did it with outside shooting, hitting ten 3-pointers in the first half and four more in the second half. With 3:20 remaining in the game and Krop leading 56-38, Southwest coach Tom Moore emptied his bench giving everyone an opportunity to play. In the final minutes, Andy Sanchez and Adrian Couto each scored baskets and Andrew Rodriguez drew two charges. Leo Torres led the Eagles with 7 rebounds and Ray Lleonart had 4 assists.
