EAGLES FINISH REGULAR SEASON ON A WINNING NOTE, 53-43 Southwest overcame a sluggish first half to defeat host
Hialeah Gardens, 53-43, in the final regular season game for both teams.
The Eagles (16-6) led 21-18 after a slowly paced first half that saw Southwest
coach Tom Moore so upset with his team's play that he did not join the
players in the lockerroom at halftime. The Eagles, who begin District
Tournament play on Wednesday, opened the third quarter with a 9-1 run
in the first 2:26 to take an 11 point lead. The closest the Gladiators
(12-11) got the rest of the way was a 41-36 deficit with 4:20 remaining
in the game. Ray Lleonart and Leo Torres had 5 rebounds each while Gio
Gonzalez had 20 points, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Oscar Blanco had three
3-pointers for Southwest. JUNIOR VARSITY WIN FINAL GAME The Southwest junior varsity beat Hialeah Gardens for the second time this season, 61-60. The Baby Eagles, coached by Mike Dearmas, finished their season with a 4-11 record. |
